Homemade Hot Dog Buns
1 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup butter
Mix together in a microwaveable bowl and heat until butter is melted. Let cool to 110 degrees.
2 1/2 cups white bread flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 T instant yeast
2 T sugar
1 1/2 tsp table salt
1 egg
Mix 1 3/4 cups white flour, whole wheat flour, yeast, sugar and salt in the bosch or whatever mixer you have. Add wet ingredients, then add egg. Slowly add remaining flour until dough comes together in a ball and no dough remains on the sides of the bowl. At this point you could hand knead it for a while or let the bosch do the job for a minute or two. Let rise until doubled. Divide into 16 pieces. Roll each piece into a thin 6 x 4 rectangle and roll up starting from the long side. Pinch closed. Let rise on stone or baking sheet for 20 - 25 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes. Brush with butter.
We had these with sloppy joe meat (scott and the kids), I had mine with turkey. They were so soft and yummy!

WOW, just breezing through the blogs and what did I find, a cool recipe for hot dog buns. I'm glad that I have never given up on checking your blog. Tell everyone hello.
Those look yummy. I will have to add them to my ever growing list of recipes to try. Too bad my kids won't eat buns... they are all about the hot dogs. LOL.
Would this recipe work for Philly cheesesteaks? They look so good!
I hate to say this, but your hot dog bun recipe is way more exciting than anything I've blogged about lately. Yours turned out looking so...real! I've got to give them a try!
